On the way into work this morning I had my biannual wipeout on my bike. I was going downhill and took a curve too wide. I hit a patch of autumn humus and Physics Happened. I was able to continue to work and bike home.
Damage to self:minor. Momentarily stunned; gash on my right leg and ankle, road rash on posterior, and soreness and stiffness in places I didn’t know could get sore and stiff. I’m just glad I was wearing a tyvek (same stuff as envelopes) jacket and tights for the cool (47°F) weather. They were both ripped, which is kinda ironic for the tyvek jacket. I can never open those things…
Damage to bike: minimal. My back tire’s got a flat spot from the sidward skid – it’s down to the fabric, so the tire’s hosed; sheared my spare water bottle carrier off; right handlebar segment bent up 3″ (easily put back into place); rear derailleur needed adjusting.
